Seeds are quite a magical phenomenon. These little plant babies can lie dormant for thousands of years in the ground, until the ideal conditions are present for them to sprout.

The tiny seed contains an enormous potential for life. Inside its hard casing is all the genetic information required to form its parent plant; a tremendous storehouse of highly concentrated vitamins, minerals, essential oils and dormant enzymes.

These same elements are required in the growth of healthy humans. That’s why many seeds are considered super foods, promoting the best health for kids, and revered for their life-giving qualities since biblical times.

Pumpkin Seeds – High in vitamin A, calcium and iron, as well as omega 3 and 6 fatty acids that promote good health for kids. These are so tasty to munch on their own, or to sprinkle on salads or muesli.

Sunflower Seeds – Very high in protein, potassium, linoleic acid, magnesium, B vitamins thiamin and niacin. Sunflower seeds have four times the amount of iron compared to the same amount of beef. Sunflower “flour” is the richest iron source in the world.

Sesame Seeds – Also high in calcium and protein, this tiny seed is great to flavor any veggie dish. They have warming properties…definitely useful if you live in a colder climate!

Flax Seeds – A rich source of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, fiber, protein and mucilage. Soak them for at least half an hour and they will expand 20 times in volume, then you will see the “mucilage”, the gel coating that cleanses toxic buildup in the bowel.

Ground flax seeds can be added to just about anything (from porridge to desserts), and are a great substitute for eggs in recipes. Add them whole, or use the cold-pressed oil on salads.

Hemp Seeds – They have the optimal ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids, 3:1. This super food is also 25% protein and rich in amino acids.

Just one tablespoon of hemp seed oil meets a child’s daily requirements of linoleic acid, for optimal cell function!

Chia Seeds – The chia seed is a magical super food that was eaten by Aztec warriors before going into battle. Its ability to absorb water prolongs hydration in the body, and aids the absorption of nutrients.

Chia seeds are rich in calcium, phosphorus and potassium, as well as essential fatty acids which contribute to health for kids.

They turn into a gel when you mix them into any liquid, so you can add them to water, nut milk or lemonade on the go.
